Civil society organisations in Yemen play a crucial role in responding to the impact of war and mobilising communities to work together, and are the last standing pillar of democracy. Saferworld supports Yemeni civil society organisations to focus on the issues they have identified as priorities and to help them build the foundations for longer-term peace in Yemen.
We advise on operational procedures and provide financial support to civil society projects. Our Yemen Civil Society Solidarity Fund has provided small grants of up to €45,000 to 18 Yemeni civil society organisations to undertake work that includes increasing young people and women’s participation in community activities and policy changes, building relations between communities and people who are internally displaced due to conflict, and tackling violence in secondary schools.
With partners the National Organisation for Community Development and Peace for Sustainable Societies, we have established two civil society hubs which connect the work of 15 marginalised organisations, each with their own independent structures, to solve community problems and strengthen collaboration.
