In Gok-Machar, unemployment is a huge problem that can force some young people into illegal means to earn money, impacting people’s security and safety. The conflict that erupted in Juba, South Sudan in July 2016 had devastating effects on people’s lives - especially their sense of peace and security. Four years since the conflict, there was still no functioning police station in Juba’s Gudele Block 9, adding to the insecurity. Reopening a police station has helped communities in the area restore peace and security among many residents.

Women and youth in Rudaki district, Tajikistan face many challenges and threats to their security – including violence at home. As part of Saferworld and our partner Jahon’s support to community policing partnership teams, we have provided a small grant for the team in Rudaki to open a psychological and legal counselling centre. This centre will help in addressing domestic violence issues in the community and preventing further conflict from happening.
