This World Humanitarian Day, solidarity is needed more than ever to reflect the realities of a world in turmoil

On World Humanitarian Day, Natalia Chan reflects on the challenges facing the humanitarian sector and why conflict sensitivity and peacebuilding offer key insights for navigating the complex realities of a world in turmoil. Natalia is a Senior Conflict and Security Adviser at Saferworld and works closely with the conflict sensitivity facilities in Sudan and South Sudan. Youth, Peace and Security ten years on: Including young people in building peace is more important than ever

The 400 aid distribution points operating during the temporary ceasefire across Gaza have now been replaced by just four military-controlled distribution sites, forcing two million people into overcrowded, militarized zones where they face daily gunfire and mass casualties while trying to access food and are denied other life-saving supplies.

The National Security Strategy the peacebuilding sector hoped for vs the one the UK delivered

There was much hope within the conflict prevention community and beyond that the new UK National Security Strategy (NSS) – published last week – could be a much more comprehensive response to the international security environment, update the UK’s approach to preventing and resolving proliferating conflicts, and plug the gaps in the considerably narrower Strategic Defence Review. Alas, the gulf between the new UK NSS and this vision couldn’t be bigger.

Time for Rightsizing: Change is Coming to the UN Counterterrorism System

Diplomats at the United Nations in New York have their 2025 buzzword: “UN80.” It’s a quintessential U.N.-style acronym for the reform process to mark the 80th anniversary of the U.N. system.
