From the Sustainable Development Goals to the Post-2015 Development Agenda: Building a Consensus for Peace

Ahead of the 69th UN General Assembly, Saferworld has produced a new briefing, From the Sustainable Development Goals to the Post-2015 Development Agenda: Building a Consensus for Peace.

This briefing paper includes:

  • A summary of the state of play with regards to the inclusion of peace in the post-2015 development agenda;
  • A recap of the evidence on why peace should be included and explores how it can most effectively be integrated into the new framework;
  • An examination of key concerns that have been put forward about the inclusion of peace and responds to the arguments that have been made; and
  • A number of principles and practical suggestions for securing an inclusive agreement on a framework that is effective in promoting peace.

“Securing inclusive agreement ... is of paramount importance as the participation of the widest possible range of Member States – including key actors from the Global South – in framing the new development agenda is essential if the selected goals and targets are to be legitimate and effective.”
