Training of trainers manual: transforming conflict and building peace

North-western Pakistan, comprising Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province (KP) and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), is a complex region that has experienced conflict for a number of years, creating an insecure environment for its people. Local civil society organisations (CSOs) are working with communities to tackle this insecurity, often in inaccessible parts of the territory and with limited resources.

Incorporating findings from the recently published CSOs needs assessment report, Promoting Participatory Approaches to Peacebuilding in KP and FATA, project partners CAMP and Saferworld have developed a training of trainers (ToT) manual, Transforming Conflict and Building Peace. This manual forms part of a wider programme on promoting participatory approaches to peacebuilding in KP and FATA funded by the EU. The purpose of this manual is to prepare trainers to present the concepts of conflict transformation and peacebuilding.

The ToT manual provides tools on developing practical skills and theoretical knowledge on Participatory Conflict Analysis; Conflict Sensitivity; Dialogue: Mediation, Negotiation and Peacebuilding; Advocacy for Conflict Transformation; Understanding and Measuring Change; and Community-driven Initiatives for Peace and Security. The manual should be seen as being flexible and attuned to local context and participant needs as appropriate. An Urdu translation will be made available from early March.

CAMP and Saferworld are currently conducting CSO trainings. To find out more about our work in Pakistan, click here.

“The manual is designed for training trainers in a five-day workshop and uses a mixture of presentations, small group work, plenary discussions, participant presentations, role-plays and energisers.”
