Saferworld response to the World Development Report 2011
This paper is Saferworld's response to the World Bank's 2011 World Development Report on Conflict, Security and Development.
Saferworld strongly welcomes the first World Development Report to focus on issues of conflict and security. The Report sends a powerful message that the World Bank recognises that violent conflict underpins many of the challenges facing development, and that action to prevent it must inform strategies for economic development and pursuing the MDGs.
Along with highlighting many positive aspects of the report, Saferworld's response also flags areas which need to be elaborated with care and pursued with caution and vigilance.
