A quick guide to Conflict Sensitivity Facilities: An overview of Saferworld’s experience and lessons
In many countries, international development and humanitarian agencies have become the primary means through which social services and humanitarian assistance are funded or delivered. But this lifeline is under pressure from funding cuts, and such assistance can also become embroiled in local governance, economies and conflicts in ways that perpetuate conflict.
As part of our contribution to resolving this challenge, Saferworld has launched a number of Conflict Sensitivity Facilities. This innovative model, which we piloted in South Sudan in 2016, aims to help aid contribute to peace and break cycles of protracted conflict. This briefing summarises our experience of designing and supporting these facilities, and sets out our understanding of what Conflict Sensitivity Facilities are, why they are important, what kinds of results they can achieve, and guidance on what it takes to deliver them.
