Strengthening inclusive development and equal access to resources in Uganda
In Adjumani and Nwoya – two districts in Northern Uganda – land rights violations, including illegal land acquisitions and forceful evictions, are violating people’s human rights.
The marginalisation and exclusion of women and young people from land and property rights and processes for participation, as well as competition over natural resources and the effects of climate change, are also causing tensions.
With our partner RICE-West Nile, we carried out a gender and conflict analysis in the two districts to identify key drivers of conflict and their correlation with gender norms. This briefing outlines the main causes of conflict in Adjumani and Nwoya – according to the people who live there – and provides recommendations for policymakers and programming to address these.
