The People’s Coalition for the Sahel: Presentation of the four People’s Pillars
The crisis in the Sahel is deteriorating. Increasing violence is forcing many people to flee. The COVID-19 pandemic has further exposed the weaknesses of the region's governance and health systems. It has also revealed the complex causes of violence and insecurity that has led to severe human rights violations and atrocities across the region.
International collaboration among states is essential to address the complexities of the crisis in the Sahel. All efforts made to better protect and respond to people's needs and to build an inclusive peace must be carried out in consultation with people affected by the crisis. Collaboration with local and regional civil society organisations, in particular those working in Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger, is essential.
This is why we support Sahelian civil society organisations and the launch of a “People's Coalition for the Sahel.” Read more about the coalition and its four “People’s Pillars” – that we believe must guide any response to the crisis in the region.
