Uganda’s mining sector: key considerations for conflict-sensitive investment in Karamoja

Karamoja, in northern Uganda provides ample opportunities for investment. But land – on which most investments take place – is a major cause of conflict.

This briefing builds upon Saferworld’s September 2017 guidance for investors in the mining sector. In this extended briefing, we explore conflict drivers in the Karamoja region. We offer recommendations for commercial investors to adopt business practices which reduce conflict and promote a more transparent and prosperous mining industry.
