Enhancing EU-China cooperation on peace and security

China and the European Union (EU) have a shared interest in the maintenance of regional and international peace and stability. As security challenges become increasingly complex and transnational, the pressure on the EU and China to take more responsibility in peace and security matters can be expected to grow.

The aim of this briefing is to provide an overview of the level of convergence (or divergence) in the approaches taken by the EU and China in the sphere of peace and security; it identifies some of the concrete measures that have been put in place and the results of the existing security cooperation; it points to areas where security cooperation remains weak; and it concludes with observations on priority areas for strengthened China-EU engagement on security.
