Saferworld's submission to UN study on youth and peacebuilding

In December 2015, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) unanimously adopted its first resolution (UNSCR 2250) solely dedicated to the positive role of young people in building peace around the world.

The resolution requested that the United Nations Secretary-General “carry out a progress study on the youth’s positive contribution to peace processes and conflict resolution, in order to recommend effective responses at local, national, regional and international levels”, and that results of the study are presented to the UN Security Council and member states.

Published in March 2018, 'The missing peace: Independent progress study on youth, peace and security' looks at what policy changes are needed to harness the potential of young people for change. A full version of the study will be published in late 2018.

Saferworld supported the development of the progress study. We shared insights from our work with youth in East Africa, Central Asia and the Middle East, and offered a range of policy recommendations based on our research.
