Saferworld joins 30 organisations calling for an end to the Israeli offensive in Rafah

15 February 2024

The UK must press the Israeli government to immediately stop its offensive into Rafah and call for a ceasefire now.

Following Israel’s ‘evacuation’ orders for areas in northern and central Gaza, many Palestinians fled to the south, to Rafah, designated a ‘safe zone’ by Israel. Despite this designation, the Israeli military has subjected Rafah to intense bombardment, and dozens of people, mostly civilians, have been killed.

Saferworld has joined 30 organisations in the humanitarian and human rights sector in an open letter to the UK Government. In the letter, we ask the Prime Minister to use the UK’s full diplomatic pressure to call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, including calling off the Rafah offensive and suspending all UK arms transfers to Israel. This is the only way to prevent further loss of civilian lives, secure the release of hostages, and ensure the entry of life-saving humanitarian aid.
