Vienna

With a number of key international and multilateral institutions based in Vienna – such as the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime and the Secretariat of the Wassenaar Arrangement on Export Controls for Conventional Arms and Dual-Use Goods and Technologies – it is a major centre within Europe for policies to prevent conflict.

Our work

Saferworld works with Austrian government officials, foreign diplomats, the Austrian Development Agency, international organisations, think tanks and research institutes to help develop effective policy on conflict and security issues. This includes attending the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organised Crime, where we bring the evidence and experience from our programmes to inform decision makers and promote policies that respond to the needs of people affected by conflict.

We also work to prevent weapons and dual-use items falling into the wrong hands by encouraging more effective implementation of international controls as well as increased cooperation between governments, companies and international export regulators.
