Community-led early warning and early response systems are helping prevent violence, improve reporting and strengthen cooperation between communities and local authorities in Somalia. Inclusive approaches that centre women, young people and marginalised groups have built trust between communities and security providers and ensured timely information reaches decision makers.
Somalia oo Nabad ah is a project implemented by Saferworld in partnership with Somali Women’s Study Centre (SWSC) and Bay Women Association Network (BAYWAN). It supports inclusive early warning and early response systems at community level in Jubaland and South West Somalia. Community-based EWER champions work with neighbourhood leaders, women’s groups, young people and local authorities to identify risks such as gender-based violence, land disputes and youth violence, enabling faster and more effective responses.
