In Kyrgyzstan, police play a crucial role in preventing crime and addressing community safety concerns. However, there is often a lack of trust and cooperation between authorities and the communities they serve. Resolving trust issues within communities can help to bridge divides and build social cohesion.
Saferworld and the Foundation for Tolerance International support 53 Local Crime Prevention Centres (LCPCs) across six provinces in Kyrgyzstan. The centres provide communities with closer ties to law enforcement and with ways they can work together to address tension and find inclusive solutions to safety and security problems that consider different perspectives and ideas.
This video showcases the efforts of several LCPC leaders, who share their experiences, challenges and successes in addressing crime and fostering peace within their communities.
