Strengthening civil society solidarity in the MENA region
The challenges facing MENA countries are regional and interdependent in nature, from political repression and humanitarian crises to gender inequality and shrinking civic space. Civil society recognises that regional problems require regional approaches and movements for peace that work across borders; yet, groups working together from the region are often held back by limited resources, a lack of sustained support and restricted opportunities for cross-border engagement.
Our work
Saferworld works to remove these barriers by connecting civil society organisations in the region – for example, in Sudan, Syria and Yemen – enabling them to develop regional visions and strategies, stand in solidarity with one another, engage in joint advocacy, amplify the voices of their communities, and influence the policies that affect their region. We facilitate dialogue spaces, offer technical support, and promote learning exchanges that help build long-term relationships, visions and trust across borders.
