Climate, conflict and the environment
Climate change and environmental degradation are having a profound impact on communities already feeling the effects of conflict and insecurity. Flooding, drought, extreme temperatures – all these are putting strain on land and resources, worsening existing conflicts and generating new ones. As both ecosystems and societies are facing unprecedented pressures, we recognise the critical role that people can play in finding innovative responses.
Our work
Saferworld works with communities and partners – within and across national boundaries – to address the ways that climate change and environmental degradation can exacerbate insecurity, poverty and marginalisation. We facilitate dialogues between groups competing over resources, and support them to develop and implement their own solutions. We work in solidarity with communities, civil society groups and organisations at the forefront of climate and environmental injustice, and seek to ensure that their views are represented in policy discussions.
We are also committed to reducing our own environmental footprint and supporting our partners to do the same.
