United Kingdom

The UK has historically played a leading role in creating more effective development policy for conflict-affected and fragile countries. Despite recent reductions in its development aid budget, the UK is still a significant donor of international development assistance and a permanent member of the UN Security Council – meaning the UK has an important role to play in supporting peace and security overseas.

Our work

Saferworld works with government officials, parliamentarians, academia, civil society and the media to help develop effective UK policy on conflict and security issues abroad. We advocate directly to the UK Government and support partners to do the same. Using evidence and experience from our programmes around the world to inform UK decision makers, and promote policies and approaches that are responsive to the needs of people affected by conflict and insecurity – we continue to influence policies and decisions related to international development and global peace in the UK.

"Governments definitely don’t always get it right, so we are here to provide constructive criticism and practical policy alternatives to build peace. For UK policy makers and influencers we can draw on our own analysis or provide a bridge or platform to our partners across Africa, Asia and the Middle East"

Lewis Brooks, Advocacy Adviser
