Life in Northwest Kenya is insecure. High levels of gun ownership and frequent inter-ethnic conflicts over scarce resources contribute to already difficult conditions in the region. Saferworld is working with local partners Peacenet and SIKOM in North Pokot to support community based initiatives for arms management and control. Reformed warriors are encouraged to voluntarily surrender their guns through an adult education and sports programme.
This photo gallery shows the programme’s achievements in July 2010. All photos are by James Ndung'u.
